This year the Department of Homeland
Security's Preparedness Directorate's Office of Grants Training
will award $500 million to thousands of fire departments
throughout the United States under the 2007 Assistance to
Firefighters Grant (AFG).
As part of our commitment to serve
the fire and EMS communities, FETN is pleased to host a
workshop on the 2007 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG).
The workshop will be conducted by a Fire Program Specialist
from The Department of Homeland Security's FEMA Region VI
and is free of charge. It will include current
program information for any fire and/or EMS organization
that wishes to submit a 2007 AFG application. Also, general
assistance in the writing of a competitive narrative for
an organization's grant application will be discussed.
Get your pencils ready! It is time for another round of Fire
Grants!
Whether you have succeeded in the past or not, it is time to
let the federal government know where you need some help financially.
Any department that has a need that qualifies needs to participate!
Think of it as your way to help us get more funding in the future.
Here's your checklist to prepare for the grant information that
will be coming out next month:
Go through your budget and pull out the items
you really need that you couldn't fund.
Prioritize the things you need the most, especially
where they help you protect your firefighters or your community.
Start working on justifications. The more
hard facts and data you can have, the better.
Go through the information posted on the FETN
website, www.FETN.com, and
see if that reminds you of anything you left out.
Go ahead and outline what you would include
in the narrative for your grant.
Put a "tickler" on your calendar
to review the new, updated information that will be available
to all of us around the first week of February. FETN will try
to post that info as soon as we can get our hands on it.
Mark out the last week of March on your calendar
and dedicate it to completing and submitting your grant proposal.
Many of the firefighters that have used the reference material
FETN has provided have been successful. Some of those success
stories are found on our web site.
Don't wait until the last minute! Start planning now to make
your needs known. Don't get tired of submitting . . . the people
on the hill need to understand what we need!
