PULSE: Geriatric Patient Down

Approximately 25 percent of Americans will be 65 years of age or older by the year 2030 and will represent 70 percent of all ambulance transports. The geriatric patient is at a high risk of falling, which makes this one of the most common calls EMTs will face, especially in locations with a large geriatric population. This course discusses why older adults are at increased risk of falls, common MOIs, and emergency treatment modalities for older adults.

Swiftwater Safety and Rescue: A Matter of Survival

An average of 200 Americans drown each year in flash flooding. It is the top weather-related killer, ahead of earthquakes, tornadoes, and hurricanes. This course includes basic safety and survival skills to be implemented in and around the moving water environment. It also covers basic rescue skills, including self-rescue skills, shorebased rescues, management of aquatic spinal injuries, rescue from low-head dams, and boat-based rescues.

American Heat: Energetic Materials Identification and Response

This course assists the responder in being able to evaluate and respond effectively to terrorism incidents that involve energetic materials. It will supply basic information concerning explosive and incendiary devices that could be used as terrorist weapons. In addition, this course provides information regarding the threat of suicide bombings.


PULSE: Hidden Hemhorragic Shock and Trauma

This course discusses the causes, signs, and symptoms of hidden hemorrhagic shock. Pre-hospital BLS treatment of hidden hemorrhagic shock for the basic EMS provider is also discussed.


Elevator Emergency

Firefighters must understand how elevators work and must learn the proper tools to use in order to rescue occupants of a malfunctioning elevator or to provide other elevator emergency services.
