OVERVIEW
The purpose of this unit is to give trainees a general understanding of electricity and the safety implication of working around it. At the conclusion of this unit, trainees will have an understanding of basic electrical principles, how electricity becomes a hazard and its effects on the human body, and the emergency procedures to follow during an electrical incident.
OBJECTIVES
Basic Electrical Principles
· Describe a circuit.
· Describe grounding.
· Explain current, voltage and resistance.
· Explain Ohm’s Law.
Electricity As A Hazard
· Explain how the body becomes part of a circuit.
· Describe factors that affect the severity of a shock.
· Describe the effects of electrical energy on the body.
· Describe electric arcs, arc flashes, and blasts.
Emergency Response
· Describe emergency procedures for typical electrical incidents.
