OVERVIEW
The purpose of this unit is to teach trainees what ISO 9000 is and how its require¬ments help ensure quality in process operations. After completing this unit, trainees should be able to describe ISO 9000 requirements associ¬ated with management, marketing, purchas¬ing, documenta¬tion, production, test equipment, statistical methods, nonconformance and corrective action, quality records, and training.
OBJECTIVES
Introduction
- Define quality in operational terms.
- Describe the basic purpose of ISO 9000 and list and describe three general duties of management under ISO 9000.
Marketing, Purchasing, and Documentation
- Explain the effects of ISO 9000 on a plant's marketing and purchasing functions.
- List and describe two areas in which ISO 9000 applies to a plant's docu¬mentation process.
Production
- List and describe four steps in a typical production process.
- Describe the effects of ISO 9000 on the following production steps: receiving, process¬ing, final inspection and test, and postproduction.
Test Equipment and Statistical Methods
- List four factors that apply to controlling test equipment under ISO 9000 and explain how the use of statistical methods applies to production requirements under ISO 9000.
Nonconformance and Corrective Action
- List four actions that can be taken to deal with a nonconforming material under ISO 9000.
- List and describe four basic steps in a typical corrective action process under ISO 9000.
Quality Records, Quality Audits, and Training
- Explain what quality records are.
- Explain what an audit is and why audits are important.
