Helping Chiefs and Training Officers use LETN
It is a very great pleasure for me to be associated with the
Law Enforcement Training Network. As a former Chief of Police,
I am well aware of the difficulties Chiefs face when trying to
stretch their training dollars as far as possible. I also know
how difficult it is to get officers to want to watch training
videos regardless of the quality. In the coming months I hope
to assist LETN in developing a plan that will help Police Chiefs
better manage their training and to develop better training incentives
for officers.
One of our current projects is the development of specific Career
Tracks for Patrol, Investigations, Communications, Corrections
and Supervision. These Career Tracks will provide a list of pre-selected
courses that are basic to those disciplines. These courses may
be modified as needed to address any special needs of your agency.
These basic courses will supplement the hands-on training provided
by a department and provide officers and non-sworn employees with
a well rounded training program.
Keeping track of the training schedule and the myriad tasks of
documentation, certification and record keeping is always an enormous
obstacle for any chief or training coordinator. LETN offers a
low cost solution through PRIMEnet Desktop Video-On-Demand.
PRIMEnet is a robust Learning Management System designed
for users to access over 500 video-based courses directly from
their desktop PCs. This solution can operate stand-alone, and
is scalable to meet the content delivery needs of large numbers
of users with PC and Internet access. Content is managed by our
Network Operations Center and placed locally at the individual
site for internal network access. Users can access content via
an online access portal, which provides user authentication and
the ability to search and select for desired content from the
LETN play list.
The Law Enforcement Training Network has been an industry leader
in video training for many years. Their ability to provide your
training by satellite, on-line video-on-demand, or by providing
departments with DVDs or tapes, places them in a position to meet
many of your training needs. My job will be to make sure the training
produced is timely and relevant to your needs. LETN continues
to welcome your ideas for programming. I look forward to assisting
you in developing the programming you need to better serve your
community and make your officers safer on the street. If you have
any suggestions, you can complete the form on LETN's webpage or
email me direct at: Marlin.Price@TWLK.com.
