Performance Objectives:
Pass Fail
Topic 1: Types of Diagrams
1.1
Identify an equipment arrangement diagram and describe
the kinds of information available on it.
1.2 Identify an elevation plan diagram and describe the kinds
of
information available on it.
1.3 Identify a block diagram and describe the kinds of
information available on it.
1.4 Identify a flow diagram and describe the kinds of information
available
on it.
1.5 Identify an electrical diagram for a process system or area
at your
site and describe the kinds of information available
on it.
Topic 2: Flow Diagram Symbols
2.1 On a process flow diagram, locate each piece of equipment
included
in one process system at your site.
2.2 On a process flow diagram, identify and trace the flows of
process
materials, utilities, and auxiliary flows through the
equipment
in the process system.
2.3 In the field, trace the flows of process materials, utilities,
and
auxiliaries through the process system.
2.4 On a process flow diagram of a process system at your site,
identify
the symbols for valves and heat exchangers. Find
examples
of lines that cross on the diagram but represent
material
flows that are not connected.
Topic 3: Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams
3.1 Using a P & ID, explain how a process system in your
unit is
monitored and controlled.
3.2 In the field and control room, locate the components of
the
instrumentation shown on the P & ID.
3.3 Using a P & ID of a process system, trace the material
and
utility flows through the equipment, noting the
location
and function(s) of instrumentation as it is
encountered
at your site.
3.4 Given a P & ID, and a work order for equipment
maintenance,
locate the equipment that requires maintenance.
3.5 Find the instrument identification chart on a P & ID of a
process
system at your site. Identify each instrument on the
chart,
starting its location, type of variable involved,
function(s),
and equipment/instrument identification
numbers(s).
3.6 Determine which instrument signal lines on the P & ID
represent
pneumatic signals and which represent electric
signals.
Topic 4: Using a System Diagram
4.1 On a flow diagram or P & ID of a process system at your
site,
locate the following and describe the information
provided
by each; a legend, equipment identification and
description,
reference to other diagrams, operation notes, and
the title
block.
4.2 Identify the equipment and instrumentation symbols used
on flow
diagrams and P & ID’s at your site.
